Divination
My divinatory counselling practice is rooted in the ancient West African Dagara tradition originating from Burkina Faso and Ghana. Malidoma Patrice Somé and Sobonfu Somé played a significant role in bringing the Dagara divinatory technologies, also known as ‘stick divination’ and ‘voice divination’, to the Western world. Until his death in 2021, elder Malidoma supported the transmission of these traditional practices beyond their cultural origins and began to introduce non-Dagara, Western spiritual seekers and healing practitioners to Dagara approaches to spirituality, healing, community and ancestral connection. After immersing myself in ritual work and divinatory practices for many years, I was invited to study and begin to practise the art of Dagara-informed divination at the beginning of 2025. My personal divinatory practice blends psychological understanding and knowledge with ancient, feminine wisdom centred on ancestral healing. While my divinatory work is predominantly informed by the ancient Dagara teachings, it is also rooted in my personal ancestry, as well as several advanced psychospiritual trainings, including extensive immersions in classical shamanism.
Please note that my divinatory counselling approach does not predict the future or provide fixed outcomes. The future is shaped by many influences, including your choices, agency, and wider circumstances. Divinatory guidance offers a deeper understanding of present energies and possible directions. It is therefore advised that you ask open-ended questions during a divination, so that a third way forward or multiple possible options can be revealed and explored.
Divination can be both a starting point and a tender companion to psychospiritual, IFS-informed therapeutic work, offering an approach rich in depth and meaning through which our inner world, including that which may remain unconscious, may reveal itself and be compassionately explored. As an ancient form of spiritual counselling found across many cultures and traditions, divination has long been used to seek psychospiritual guidance, deepen self-understanding, reconnect with ancestral wisdom and reclaim a sense of belonging—to the self, other people and the wider world. Divinatory guidance does not only serve as a mirror of our inner world, but also a bridge to the wider, animated world around us, supporting a return to clarity, balance and wholeness. At its heart, divination is a practice of deep self-inquiry, reflection and meaning-making, typically supported by ritual work.
"When your grief becomes too heavy to hold on your own, bring your sadness to the waters and the trees. Dip your feet in the ocean, sing to the rivers, pray to the fire. Let the earth mother hold you." ~ Rising woman

Divination may also help bring awareness to areas where you feel stuck, disconnected or uncertain, offering new perspectives and possibilities for moving forward.
How You May Benefit from a Divination
Origins of this Work and My Approach
We begin by exploring the questions, intentions or experiential concerns that you would like to bring into focus. Together, we create a clear and meaningful enquiry, allowing space for what is ready to emerge. I take a collaborative and dialogical approach to divinatory counselling, recognising that the most meaningful insights emerge through a shared process of exploration. Rather than offering fixed interpretations, I will encourage you to sense into what feels resonant, meaningful and relevant to your personal situation.
Divination is closely intertwined with and rooted in ritual work, meaning that you will receive a series of bespoke rituals to complete in your own time after the session. Ritual work typically involves working with the elements, spending time in communion with nature, creating altars and sacred spaces, honouring ancestral connections, and engaging in intentional practices that serves as a bridge between the physical and the metaphysical realms. Ritual work thereby helps anchor the insights and revelations received during a divination session within your system and supports you in your integration process.
We complete our session by reflecting on the guidance received, identifying any practical steps or areas for further exploration and honouring the wisdom that has been revealed. Through this process of intuitive enquiry, self-exploration and ritual work, divination can support you in navigating life transitions, reconnecting with your inner wisdom, tending to emotional and psychological well-being and moving towards greater clarity, alignment, and self-understanding.

Divination can also support the healing of ancestral wounding and transgenerational patterns or blocks by supporting you in the clearing and cleansing of any unresolved ancestral matters. Our ancestors carry wisdom, talents and strengths as well as unresolved wounds that can impact us in both empowering and challenging ways. Divination supports us in honouring our heritage while breaking free from cycles of transgenerational wounding. Releasing ancestral wounding can support you in living more fully, reclaiming a sense of belonging and embracing the strengths, wisdom, and gifts passed down through your ancestral lineage.
Divination as a tool for in-depth, holistic self-enquiry and personal transformation
Divination can support you in developing and refining your personal “seeing”, in other words, your capacity to perceive, sense into and interpret atmospheres, subtle, felt messages, inner guidance and transpersonal ways of knowing. If you are highly sensitive, intuitive or identify as a ‘psychic’ or ‘mystic’, exploring the art of divination by receiving divinatory guidance and immersing yourself in ritual work may support you in exploring and deepening your innate intuitive capacities and psychic abilities. Divination may help you develop greater trust in your unique way of receiving information from and communing with the unseen, transpersonal realms, including your personal soul.
