~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes

"The doors to the world of the wild self are few but precious. If you have a deep scar, that is a door, if you have an old, old story, that is a door. If you love the sky and the water so much you almost cannot bear it, that is a door. If you yearn for a deeper life, a full life, a sane life, that is a door."

I am a psychologist, energy practitioner and writer. IFS-informed, psychological self-inquiry and energy work have been important parts of my life and personal evolution for many years.

The poet Kabir said, “I felt in need of a great pilgrimage, so I sat still for three days.” Similarly, I have travelled into the depth of my inner landscape through intensive immersion in meditation, introspection, psychotherapy and energy work. Longing for vitality, autonomy and a genuine sense of home, I turned inwards and reclaimed my true nature. This has been the most rewarding journey I have ever embarked upon. Coming home to myself and being able to live my life more fully and authentically from a place of embodied self-love has been the greatest privilege of my life.

My love for in-depth self-inquiry, meditation and energy work has deepened ever since, and I am passionate about supporting others on their journey home—home to themselves, the world and other people. It would be my honour to support you in deepening your connection with your magnificently beautiful, ever-perfect, ever-evolving self. You are worthy of your own becoming.

My research is interdisciplinary and draws on psychology, psychiatry, philosophy and embodied spirituality. I am particularly interested in how psychology and spirituality can be bridged—on both a practical and a theoretical level.

Further areas of research I am involved in include the embodied, relational and subjective experiences of mental distress and well-being—more specifically, themes such as care, belonging, sociality, temporality and psychospiritual growth within the context of mental health. My research is predominantly informed by existential-hermeneutic phenomenology, with a strong focus on embodiment, including concepts such as ‘the embodied mind’.

My writing currently focuses on experiences of psychosis and eating distress and their psychospiritual root causes.

Research

I began my practitioner training in 2018 and since then I have studied with several shamanic practitioners, diviners, astrologers and energy healers from the UK, the US, Peru and Germany. I have completed several advanced trainings in classical shamanism, IFS-informed therapy, occult hermeticism and astrology. I am an initiate of the Dagara tradition—an ancient lineage that teaches practices through which a shamanic practitioner seeks guidance, insight and wisdom from the unseen realms.

In addition to the psychospiritual trainings and initiations I have received, I hold a PhD in mental health and clinical psychology from London South Bank University. My PhD focused on NHS service users’ experiences of taking psychiatric medication in the treatment of early psychosis.

Prior to my PhD studies, I completed a master’s programme in mental health and clinical psychology and received a bachelor’s degree in psychology. I am a member of the British Psychological Society, the Association of German Psychologists, the Emergent Phenomenology Research Consortium and The Institute of Psychedelic Therapy.

My energy work builds on my background in psychology, and weaves together ancient psychospiritual healing modalities and modern psychological approaches and theory.
